A Loosened Knot

Grinning heel says write out in blood all of what you want

Keep in mind now it ain’t up to us

Our volunteer loss leader

Approaches bruised and pleading

For a couple blind swings at our floating fragile god

I’m told the blade is the way through

But I have my doubts

The light dances through the leaves

In ways I haven’t ever seen

And in ways that I know I won’t ever see again

Then again

I’ll place my bets

I’ll retrace those steps

And alone

I’ll wield that weapon with my fingers crossed

Reciting satan’s prayer as a party trick to entertain some conmen

Curry favor, and gain trust

Then arm in arm we walk down thе

Left-hand path

Lost is the way and

A pause on thе swinging

To look at all you’ve done

Some wreckage next to some grifter now grinning all dumb

And for what?

So he can trade up

In some game made up

Of some concessions at best

That say the work’s not enough

Not to feed your family

Not to rest in peace

Only shrugging cynics

Creating distance from love

Oh I dare with the devil dance

Even if it means my beak is wet only by chance

Stuffed shirts untucked, wink-and-nudge

And arm in arm we walk down the left hand path
