Freedom from Pain

Cursed is the ground

For thy sake

You never had a chance

If every state of welfare

Every feeling of satisfaction

Is only freedom from pain

Then our existence falls far short

Of any aim but suffering

An innocent prisoner condemned

Knows not what waits

Beyond the curtain

Before the show begins

But the trick performed twice

Loses novelty

Ceases to deceive

And so we seek a state of life

To say:

It is bad today

Worse tomorrow

And soon, thе worst of all
